LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
RECONCOCIMIENTO DE TIERRAS
We gather as a church on the unceded ancestral lands of the Gabrielino-Tongva and Kizh Nation peoples. We respectfully acknowledge these peoples as the traditional caretakers of this land and honor their ongoing presence among us. We are grateful for the opportunity that we have been given to come together on this land for worship and fellowship.
Nos reunimos como una iglesia en las tierras ancestrales no cedidas de los pueblos Gabrielino-Tongva y Nación Kizh. Reconocemos con respeto a estos pueblos como los cuidadores tradicionales de esta tierra y honramos su presencia continúa entre nosotros. GOD BEHIND AND GOD BEFORE
DIOS DETRÁS Y DIOS DELANTE
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Sovereign God, the beginning and the end, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.
(Revelation 1:8 – NRSVUE)
Dios el Soberano dice: «Yo soy el Alfa y la Omega, el principio y el fin, el que es, el que era, y el que ha de venir. Soy el Todopoderoso.»
(Apocalipsis 1:8 – RVC)
Guided Meditation before Worship
Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet; Omega is the last. An equivalent statement in modern English would be “I am the A and the Z.”
This is, of course, a metaphor for two opposing processes. ‘Beginning’ implies the initiation of something new; ‘Ending’ implies the termination of something that has been around for a while.
What is not clear here is the nature of the beginning and ending to which our text refers. Three options present themselves:
- The beginning and ending of creation as a whole… of all that has been, is, or ever will be.
- The beginning and ending of human history… of humanity’s role and place in the vast expanse of cosmic time.
- The beginning and ending of a particular era in human history… specifically of our era marked by sinfulness, injustice, conflict, and unrighteousness.
All of these options have validity, and all may be equally true.
- God who exists before anything else exists — God who creates everything from nothing — will continue to be even if and when everything else passes away.
- God who creates the first human beings — God who sets human history in motion — will still be God even if humanity ever ceases to exist.
- God who is outraged at human disobedience — God who mourns when humanity chooses death over life — will be here rejoicing when humanity is finally restored to the fullness of holiness.
Whatever parameters we choose, God is always here before and God is always here after. God is the A and the Z of all that was, is, and will be.
Ponder, for a moment, what it means to you to believe that every aspect of your life is surrounded by God. How might such knowledge affect:
- how you live in the world? …
- how you interact with other human beings who share this world with you? …
- how you treat the world itself in all of its wonder and diversity? …
- how you worship God and follow Christ?
Share your thoughts and feelings with a few other people. And when you are ready, pray this prayer with them:
Prayer of Preparation
You surround us, O God. You are our beginning and our ending… our before and our after… our Creator and our hope for the future. Turn our hearts in love and obedient service to you as we learn to love and serve those with whom we share this world that you have made. In the name of Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Meditación Guiada antes de la Adoración
Alfa es la primera letra del alfabeto griego; omega es la última. Una afirmación equivalente en español moderno sería “Yo soy el A y la Z”.

Reflexiona un momento sobre lo que significa para ti creer que cada aspecto de tu vida está rodeado por Dios. ¿Cómo podría afectar ese conocimiento:
- a tu forma de vivir en el mundo? …
- a tu forma de interactuar con otros seres humanos que comparten este mundo contigo? …
- a tu forma de tratar al mundo en toda su maravilla y diversidad? …
- a tu manera de adorar a Dios y seguir a Cristo?
Comparte tus pensamientos y sentimientos con algunas otras personas. Y cuando estés listo, ora con ellos esta oración:
Oración de Preparación
Nos rodeas, oh Dios. Eres nuestro principio y nuestro fin… nuestro antes y nuestro después… nuestro Creador y nuestra esperanza para el futuro. Dirige nuestros corazones en amor y servicio obediente a ti mientras aprendemos a amar y servir a aquellos con quienes compartimos este mundo que tú has hecho. En el nombre de Cristo Jesús oramos. Amén.
