HOW CAN I GET
TO WORSHIP ON
OCTOBER 12?
On Sunday, October 12, LA Metro will be sponsoring CicLAvia – Heart of LA. This will result in a number of road closures in Downtown and East Los Angeles. It will still be possible to drive to worship at the La Plaza UMC at 10:30 a.m. and the Echo Park UMC at 2:00 p.m., but you will need to give some thought ahead of time to your route.
As you will see from the map included below, these are the roads that will be closed to traffic. Thankfully, the city will be providing crossings at key points along the way:
- 7th Street will be closed from MacArthur Park to Broadway. (Crossings will be available at Alvarado Street, Figueroa Street, Grand Street, and Olive Street.)
- Broadway will be closed from 7th Street to Bernard Street in north Chinatown. (Crossings will be available at 6th Street, 3rd Street, Temple Street, Cesar Chavez/Sunset Blvd., and Alpine Street.)
- 1st Street will be closed from Broadway to Central Avenue. (A crossing will be available at Los Angeles Street.)
- Central Avenue will be closed from 1st Street to 6th Street. (Crossings will be available at 3rd Street and 4th Street.)
- 6th Street (which becomes Whittier Boulevard on the east side of the LA River) will be closed from Central Avenue to Boyle Avenue. (Crossings will be available at Alameda Street and Mateo Street.)
- Boyle Avenue will be closed for one small block from Whittier Boulevard to St. Louis Street.
- St. Louis Street will be closed from Boyle Avenue to 1st Street. (A crossing will be available at 4th Street.)
- 1st Street will be closed from St. Louis Street to Mariachi Plaza.
Please plan accordingly. We will see you in church!
