A Brief Letter on Stewardship / Una Carta Breve sobre la Mayordomía

October 24, 2026

Greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

I had hoped to focus my messages for October on different aspects of what it means to be stewards of God’s good gifts. Unfortunately, my hospitalization on October 16 and 17, and subsequent health care treatments, have made that impossible. So, let me summarize here some of what I hoped to say:

1. “Workers in the vineyard” (Matthew 21:33-46) – The earth is not ours. It belongs to God. As disciples, we are given use of the earth with the understanding that we will use it for God’s purposes.

2. “Discerning priorities” (Matthew 22:1-14) – Our lives offer many different opportunities, some good, some not so good. Knowing which to choose depends on the priorities we set. Will we follow the priorities of the world or of God?

3. “Pursuing the glory” (Matthew 22:15-22) – Disciples are called to share in the glory of Christ. The fullness of life will never be found in the acquisition and hoarding of the riches offered us by this world. So, we might as well do our part and pay our taxes. True glory comes when we give ourselves to God.

4. “All  for love” (Matthew 22:34-46) – We are called to root our life choices in the commandments to love God and neighbor. It is only in love that we truly render to God the things that are God’s.

Pertenece a Dios.

Stewardship is more than just something we do or money that we give to help keep the church afloat. It is a way of life centered around and focused on God as we make our way through this changing and sometimes difficult world.

God bless you all.
